This is a 1978 commercial; showing how ratio's in advertising date back. The Advertisement says that "4 out of 5 dentists recommend sugarless gum for their patients who chew gum". This is a ration of 4:5. This means for every 5 dentists questioned 4 recommend sugarless gum.

Mac Advertisement

On the apple website there is an advertisement comparing all of the macbooks so the buyer can find the one that's best for them. For example, a 13inch macbook is $1199, a 15inch macbook is $1699, and a 17inch macbook is $2499. 1199:1699:2599 (cost) or 13:15:17 (inches).

This video is about the ratio of different amount of Hz used in a TV per-second to get the best "refresh rate". For example 240 Hz creates a better picture than 60 Hz.

16X9 Factor

This article describes how widescreen televisions today have a 16 to 9 ratio. This mean that for every 16 units long, the television will be units high. This differs from the original television of 4 to 3 ratio. This ratio gives the television its name because it is almost twice as wide as it is high.

In this ad, Burger King says that for every Angus/Bacon Double Cheese burger one buys they can get one more burger for free. The ratio they are advertising is 1:1 (1 burger : 1 burger), or 2:1 because for every 2 burgers you buy, you pay the price of 1 burger.
