Welcome to our class blog page!!!

Welcome to our blog site. We will use this blog to share ideas with each other and to share with the world a view of our experiences and our lives at MICDS in Geometry class.

In my first blog post, I want to consider the use of social media both in your lives and in the classroom. The use of some types of social media, like email, the internet, and even blogs and wikis, has become prevalent in classrooms at all age levels around the world. More recent trends indicate an increased use of other social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter, and cell phones.

In order to gauge where the use of social media fits into your life, I would like you to post a comment answering the following questions:
1. Do you contribute regularly to a blog or wiki?

2. Do you have a Facebook account?

3. Do you have a Twitter account?

4. If you are a consumer of social media, which vehicle do you use more frequently to access the social media tools you use - your computer or your cell phone?

5. Of all the social media tools you utilize, which one would you miss the most if your access to it was shut down? What would you miss?

6. Of all the social media tools you utilize, which one do you see having the most potential as a tool to strengthen, deepen, and make more meaningful the learning that already happens in your classes and in your school? How/why?

7. Of all the social media tools you utilize, which one do you see as having the least potential as a tool to strengthen, deepen, and make more meaningful the learning that already happens in your classes and in your school? How/why?

When you have addressed each of these questions in your comment, please do not forget to click on the "publish comment" button.

My computer, because I can do much more on a computer, even calling and texting, and more. I could also do important work on my computer.

6. Of all the social media tools you utilize, which one do you see having the most potential as a tool to strengthen, deepen, and make more meaningful the learning that already happens in your classes and in your school? How/why?
I think computers have the most potential as a tool to strengthen learning. There are a lot of ways to succeed in school, simply by having a laptop, like the MICDS students. Computers are great for working on, they are portable, and it's also a good way to take a break from work.

7. Of all the social media tools you utilize, which one do you see as having the least potential as a tool to strengthen, deepen, and make more meaningful the learning that already happens in your classes and in your school? How/why?
I think phones have the least potential because there's not much you can do on a phone that contributes to learning, except for maybe calling someone for help. Usually when people have to use their phone for the internet, its usually when they dont have a computer at hand, meaning a computer is their first choice for the internet. It would be my fist choice too.

4. If you are a consumer of social media, which vehicle do you use more frequently to access the social media tools you use - your computer or your cell phone?

My cell phone because it is more portable then my computer. With my phone I can access facebook anywhere, I can also text and check my email.

5. Of all the social media tools you utilize, which one would you miss the most if your access to it was shut down? What would you miss?

I would probably miss my phone the most because it is such a big part of my life. I always have it with me. I use my phone for facebook, texting, emailing, and so on.

6. Of all the social media tools you utilize, which one do you see having the most potential as a tool to strengthen, deepen, and make more meaningful the learning that already happens in your classes and in your school? How/why?

Recently in my English class, we were told to make a twitter account. At first this idea seemed stupid and pointless to me but as the weeks have gone on I find that the twitter account is giving me valuable information that I can’t receive on the portal. The teacher posts key words, important passages, hints and much more on Twitter. Before this I had never thought of twitter as a helpful classroom tool. I now think that this could be beneficial in other classrooms.

7. Of all the social media tools you utilize, which one do you see as having the least potential as a tool to strengthen, deepen, and make more meaningful the learning that already happens in your classes and in your school? How/why?

Of all of the social networks, I would say that facebook has the least amount of potential to help in any sort of classroom setting. Facebook is more of a social and personal thing. I think that mixing that with school would result in disastrous problems.

6. Computers becaus eonce again it is easy and fast and there is always some answer on what you are looking up.
7. Phones are probably the least tool to help learn because there is nothing you can do on it that is school related except call a friend for help or look on the internet which is the same thing as having a computer.

1.No, I do not contribute to a blog or wiki regularly, unless it is required for school.

2.Yes, I do have a Facebook account.

3.Yes, I do have a Twitter account but, the only reason I have it is because it is required for my English class.

4.I prefer to use a computer when it comes to Facebook or Skype, but I tend to you my cell phone a bit more only because I have it with me more often.

5.Well, if texting is included in social media, I would miss my phone the most because I do everything on it, for instance text and use Facebook; but if texting does not count as social media, then I would most likely miss my Facebook account the most.

6.The internet is a tool I would utilize the most because it keeps me connected with Dino, online dictionaries, and it can be used as an all around good and quick resource.

7.The internet is a tool that also gives me the opportunity to giving me less potential in school because of all of the games and different social networking stuff in it.

7.My cellphone because even though I do get a daily news update I don't usually use it for school work unless I need a quick calculator. I just text, call people, and take pictures on the go
